Tennessee is not considered a "true" constitutional carry state, but it does have a permitless carry law for handguns. This means residents 21 and older who are legally allowed to possess a handgun can carry it, openly or concealed, without a permit, provided they are in a place where they are lawfully present. Tennessee's permitless carry law went into effect on July 1, 2021.
